Week 4 - Maquette and Character Design

Week 4 was with Julia Bracegirdle, doing all sort of various small projects. This included a quick silhuettefilm, Photoshop-collage (I made a rusty ol' car) and a bigger character design, originating from a soundclip from a children history we listened to. So here goes the rusty Photoshop-mockup, aswell as my wolf-character; The proces, maquette-pictures and two various PS mock-ups:

Also, I was in charge of taking care of a 17-year old intern-guy this week, which was also an experience for me personally. Next week's going to be more design-teaching, this time with an amazing teacher formerly mentioned on my blog, Lawrence Marvit. Updates next week!

Selfportrait digital

Selfportrait study - roughly 3+ hours on this one. Digital, one brush only - and this time picking the colors from imagination from the picture, rather than Eyedrop Tool-selecting them easily

Sketches and matte painting practise

First, the two matte painting integrations I've been working on the last two days with our french teacher Anne Laure To. Basicly the task was to integrate this "Petra" temple in another environment and setting, matching color values, hue, texture etc. The "invisible art" as she called it.

And here some more sketchbook stuff:

Week 3 with Anne Laure To - Task was to make an establishment shot with a character of your own choice in its natural environment, fighting against a Happy Meal-character (McDonalds advertisement idea our teacher had been working on). So, first step was 3 black & white-thumbnails, then pick the one you liked the most and do three color-roughs, and finally detail the chosen to a concept-art kind of state.

Also, a little freestyle experiment with new brushes I got from a classmate. Interesting!

First 2 weeks and introproject completed

Introproject done, delivered and presented in front of the whole school. All the group's work surprised me pleasantly - all in all it was high quality. Also we had a valuable discussion afterwards the presentation about the groups and its experiences, everyone able to be honest and give constructive critism.
Anyway, here goes the first animated movie I've participated in! I mostly worked on the last 2-3 backgrounds (colored ones), editing, sound/music etc.

Facestudy from pic and purple thing

Various experiments here. Facestudy from picture (Afghan male) and some spacy purple art I don't even know myself what is.

Giant structure and airplanes-background

Working on a lot of various environs for the time being. Recently tried working with more reference-pictures, textures and more mattepainting-ish look, rather than doing my usual 90% painted style, so the following giant structure and flying airplanes-environment is a product of this experimentation.

Backgrounds - project 1 continued

Continued background-proces for our 30-sec film "Deer Caught In Headlight". There's going to be a transition from picture 1 to 2 in terms of the color-fading/gradient. The black rock in picture two is meant to "beat" the maincharacter up, making her fall and begin her morphing-phase (in picture 3).

 More to come next week.

1st project CGA

First week's going fast. Lectures combined with group work planned for the first 2 weeks, me being in a group with three girls. This is some conceptual style-idea exploration I did for the background scenario. It's going to be more indoor-orientated and not so caribbean ocean style. But here goes:

More to come later on.

Creature artwork - madureira-inspired

Creature-sketch done tonight. Inspired somewhat by Joe Madureira's style and Darksiders-artwork, especially the picture here

Funny thing is, when I looked and first found this picture of Madureira around half a year ago, I was in awe and thought I'd possibly be able to do this kind of stuff and artwork in maybe 10 years+ - however, feels like the dream's hopefully going to come true a bit earlier!

Sketchbook decoration

Felt like doing something different - picked up some picture of the mainstreet in Viborg from the newspaper (the mainstreet's currently being rebuilt) - putted some white paper behind it, started taped it onto the sketchbook - and then just went crazy with colorpencils, tusch, tape and materials. Also figured out one can use the transparent kind of tape onto pieces of your picture to make it brighter, and therefore create depth (like the claw furthest away). It all turned out to this:

Wup - update

Update time here. This time it's going to feature a bit of selected sketchbookpieces aswell as my best works from my recent trip to Rome (5 days with family, got to do a bit of watercolour and pencil drawings ;-)  ).

Also this post's gonna feature a bit of croquis I did last night, after having a 2 1/2 month long break from live figure drawing (woaw, that's a really long time!), and hopefully I'm not totally out of practise.
